Stan Francis adds the following observations: I came across your Botesdale site which is which is where I have traced my ancesters to. The name changed a few times along the years, but the name in Botesdale was Rev: Slapp of Redgrave Chuch, 1530, may be a few years out on the year, he is buried at the rear of the church and he evidentally trained the young and eventual Cardinal Thomas Wolsey. The family owned three pubs, Eagle and Star was one and still there so I hear. They also owned a roofing/thatch and a wire manufacturing business and something to do with clocks and church organs. We feel that there is also a French connection but did not go back any further. |
