To St. Petersburg round the Baltic Cruise - Gdynia for Gdansk |
Gdynia is the port Gdansk & was built in the Polish Corridor for use, rather than beauty.
We only had a few hours in this port, so we grabbed a taxi, driver Marek & got him to take us everywhere the three tours were doing. It was quite hot, up to 25°C. He took us first to Oliwa Cathedral, which was light & airy inside but there was a service on.

Then, to St Mary's Cathedral where we parked. This, too, was not the usual gloomy old god shop or over-the-top baroque confection.
We walked into the Old Town, to the main street for coffee, with its Golden Gate at one end & Green Gate at the other.

Then, along the attractive waterfront to The Crane, powered by treadmills.

Back through more old town to the taxi & to the Solidarity Monument.
Then, to Sopot & a walk along the huge beach & back to the ship.

We had to be aboard at 1215 & easily were, with time for a shower before lunch. After we took off, I finished the slide show so far & corrected the Vienna one I intend to use before "The Waltz" talk. I got Glenda to print off 150 of my new leaflet & distributed them.
It was British Evening tonight. I had a Union Flag tie, so did two other chaps & Avis used a big Union Flag as a cape.
