Cadiz

Up fairly early, as the ship came into Cadiz at 0700. We set off on foot. The port terminal is inconveniently at the far end of the dock but the dock is actually right up to the Old Town, so that is no big deal. We went to the Town Hall, outside which was an anti-unemployment demo.

Then round to the Cathedral via the West Shore. We had a coffee (E3) with Michael & Rosalind, who is a concert pianist, so we had to break up or talk music all morning.

We walked on round to the top of the peninsular (Cadiz is on this long spit) where there is a fort at the end of a causeway. Then, we cut back through the town from the university & back to the ship for lunch. After, I was not satisfied with my cathedral pictures, so went out again to take more.

But I also found the market, which is a colonnaded square with meat & veg stalls & the fish market is in the middle in a more modern building. I just love taking photos in the sort of old-fashioned markets that Tescos have murdered in Britain. The flower market is outside.

The German cruise ship Aida Bella is parked next door & I chatted to some Gerrys in the town for the language practice. I went back to the ship & onto the upper deck to photo the Town Hall from above. I eventually found Avis. We had tea & she went to an allegedly light aerobics class after we had chatted to a woman from Preston. It was a hot day after a refreshingly cool start & the top deck had a distinctly Summery air about it.
