Germany - A Saxony Culture Tour |
Wednesday 5th July 2006
Back in to Dresden, we parked in the open (E6) & walked to the Albertinum, only to find it is shut until the year 2009, note. so we walked on to the Semper Oper.

We took the tour (E12), which was in German but we bought the English language book (E4.50). Nice opera house with 4 narrow balconies. It reopened in 1977. After WWII, it was a burned-out shell but the GDR prioritised rebuilding it. |
After a stroll in the Zwinger garden & coffee there (E4.50), we went to the boat station & booked on the 1330 to Pillnitz & back (E28.40). This gave us time, in theory, to go round the Frauenkirche but the queues were too long. I amused myself photoing typical Germans. The boat trip was a delight. It took 90 minutes to get there, with a snack (E7.90) & 60 back with ice creams (E3.40).

There, we walked along the river bank to the Schloss, which is somewhat of a Chinoiserie, generously laid out & with very disciplined gardens in the middle.

Our car was cool when we got back, as the Sun had come round & we drove back quickly, where we had beers, which rather put us to sleep. I had a Cordon Bleu for dinner & Avis, another trout. We watched the France-Portugal match, well-balanced but the Portuguese were dirty & France won because of a penalty.
