He died when I was 6 and then came the war and my mother burned all papers of german origin - who could blame her? I know my grandfather was a King's Head Forester. I do have a postcard of Reinhartsdorf showing the Lodge where my father lived but that is all. I did write after the wall came down but they were unable to find anything. |

From Glenys Hookham e-mail her I am seeking information on the family of Friedrich CORDES, full name may have been Johann Heinrich Friedrich born in VISSELHOVEDE HANOVER circa 1860. Father possibly the same name. Friedrich married Linda DORR in the parish of West Ham, London, England in 1883. |

From Monica Shelley e-mail her My uncle, born Charles Curt Heinrich Schulze in 1899 in Islington (the name was later changed to Shelley) and died 1974 in New Zealand, always claimed that he was an English spy behind enemy lines, presumably in the First World War. He would have been quite young then, but he was definitely demobilised in 1919, and would have spoken fluent German, as his parents spoke little English. Does anyone else know where I might find out more about these patriotic activities? I plan to visit the PRO at Kew and the Imperial War Museum. |
