Friday 20th July 1990 - Sunday Three days spent in Arosa. It is worth spending a couple of days in Arosa, one the walk round the head of the valley via the Hörnli Hut (not to be confused with the one on the Matterhorn!) & the other way towards Madrigen. Note that, for a walk out, there are no footpath options by the road from Arosa to Chur, so it is better to do the Carmenna Pass option below. |
Monday 23rd July 1990 Arosa to Chur LK248
I got up much earlier than usual and paid my modest bill. I went up to the Carmenna Pass 2367m, by a route slightly varied from last time and down the other side, for a very long way on a path not marked on the map for most of its length. This took me to Tschertchen (right), where I stopped for a Schinken mit Ei and a beer. It was a road walk from there on and I met a locally resident English teacher by a bus stop. We were both very surprised to see each other there. My feet were pretty sore by time I approached Chur 595m. I found a civil defence centre with a modern mural by the railway. The Arosa train heads down the streets in Chur. |

I booked in to the Hotel Chur by the Plessur River in 1990 & the Hotel Post (in the Comfort chain) in the Old City main street in 2011 and went to look round. First to the station to find out when the trains to Zürich ran. Then back into the Old Town, which is very attractive and dinner in a triangular 'square' called Arcas (Restaurant Olegra). Arcas must be a Romansch word. Early and very hotly to bed in 1990. I did not pull up the duvet until 0400 tomorrow. Tuesday 24th July 1990 - Home. |
