Monday 23rd July Arosa to Chur LK248
|
I got up much earlier than usual and paid my modest bill. I went up to the Carmenna Pass 2367m, by a route slightly varied from last time and down the other side, for a very long way on a path not marked on the map for most of its length. This took me to Tschertchen, where I stopped for a Schinken mit Ei and a beer. It was a road walk from there on and I met a locally resident English teacher by a bus stop. We were both very surprised to see each other there. My feet were pretty sore by time I approached Chur 595m.

I found a civil defence centre with a modern mural by the railway. The Arosa train heads down the streets in Chur. I booked in to the Hotel Chur by the Plessur River and went to look round. First to the station to find out when the trains to Zürich ran. Then back into the Old Town, which is very attractive and dinner in a triangular 'square' called Arcas. Must be a Romansch word. Early and very hotly to bed. I did not pull up the duvet until 0400 tomorrow.
Tuesday 24th July - Home.
