Xmas Eve 2018
Lisbon panorama from the Ruin of Carmo Monastery
The portal of Our Lady of Mercy (Nossa Senhora da Conceicão)
is one of the few buildings that survived the devastating 1755 earthquake. Since we have been
to Lisbon so often, the objective of this morning's walk was the remains from the earthquake
for Ken's History lectures. The other & much bigger ruin, preserved as a memorial to
the
earthquake, is the Convento de Carmo up the West valley side of the city centre, of which there
are pictures below. |

After lunch, Ken went straight up above the Cruise Terminal to the prominent church above` but, although it was Xmas Eve, it was shut, as was the other up there. He took these photos of typical views in this domestic area of the city.
