Dublin & Canaries Xmas Cruise - 17/12/2014 |
Off for a cruise on this lovely Fred Olsen ship. The MV Boudicca, photoed at |
From London Euston, we took the Virgin Pendolino train to Liverpool Lime Street. This is very fast because of the way it banks round the bends but this does upset some people, akin to sea-sickness because of the unstable horizon. Not us, though. |
The trip took us from Liverpool to Dublin & back to Liverpool |

The taxi arrived promptly at 09:20 & it cost £17 with tip to Euston, which seemed rather a lot, considering how quick he was. There was a long slog to platform 16, as it in the West of the station & down a ramp. This is where we used to get trains to the Lake District & did not change on the rebuild. The Virgin train was fast & I found Stephen Smith, the chap who did the Art Nouveau programmes, which we watched in both series. His day job is arts on Newsnight. I told him about what we do, including cruise ships & gave him my card. It was a £6 taxi drive to the Liverpool Cruise Terminal, when one managed to get one & we were met by a Town Crier & a woman in local National Dress.

We soon checked in but it was freezing. Fortunately, we boarded at 13:25, so were not freezing long. Our bags were not in the cabin, not surprisingly, so we went off for tea & buns, which also took a little time. We have never been on a ship so quickly. We chatted while we waited. After a snack, we did what little unpacking we needed for what is only a short cruise, then intended to read but found ourselves with Peggy (rich widow but no side) & Jean, who’s husband does not like boats & was once very poor, so it was an interesting conversation. |
I had seen Scott, a dancer who is now usually a host but running the office this time. Dinner in the Tintagel Restaurant on a table for four but no one else on it. Avis had pheasant & me, pork belly. After, we tried the duo in the Lido Lounge (no proper pop group) but thought them a bit soft centred, so went to the Neptune Show Lounge & read while awaiting the christmas show, which was well done.
