Iceland Cruise June 30th 2017 - Dates |
Off for a cruise on this lovely Fred Olsen ship. The MV Black Watch, photoed at Falmouth.
|
There are hourly didmo bullet trains from St. Pancras to Dover Priory, which use the HS1 high speed tracks. Then, grab a taxi. Note that the map shows Seyðisfjörður. Owing to the weather, this did not happen. |
The trip took us from Dover to Falmouth & back to Dover |
Leaving Dover on not much of a day
Friday 30th June 2017 - Boarding
Smooth train journey & shared a taxi to the port (£5). We were soon on the boat shepherded by Raitchelle, who told us the Cruise Director was Simon Vickers. We had tea first, although our bags were already in the cabin. Then Avis unpacked while I took a photo outside & did some chatting. I unpacked after lifeboat drill, which has become rather perfunctory again: no jackets & no practice crocodile drill. Avis slept, as we are on 2nd sitting for dinner while I read & chatted more, bumping into Simon usefully. On our table was a couple, Ruth & Vic (who had interesting bricky tales, being made a Foreman on a government site at 19 soon after completing his apprenticeship & they later said because, as freshly qualified, he would stop all the short-cuts made by the experienced builders). I told a few tales. They came from Clacton (!) & I said I understood that Carswell, their one-time UKIP MP was a good constituency man & they agreed & were annoyed he had not stood as an independent. I made it clear we were thick with Emily & Jeremy. A mixed show, as so often, with some of the show team from Xmas but I don’t think all. Bed at 23:20.
