The Capital Ring

What does one do when the University of the Third Age is shut between terms & one also has the odd Saturday uncommitted? Ken decided to walk the Capital Ring this year. This is a worthy & largely successful attempt by Transport for London on this link to thread together a number of parks, open spaces & rivers to make a 78 mile walk. There is sign-posting for most of it but there are sections where this fails in very large open spaces, the worst being Beckenham Palace Park in South London, where there are plenty of signs which contradict each other. Ken ended up at Ravensbourne Station & had a suburban hike to get to New Beckenham Station. Wimbledon Common & Fryent Park are also bad. Although there are officially 15 sections, Ken broke some in two, because of planned shortage of time, many of them needing long train journeys to start & end. There were minor diversions, including to Ken's college digs in Wandsworth Common. Ken started & finished at Hendon Central Station. Here are some of the highlights. Photography was frequently constrained by the weather.
