The Gerrard Chronicles 2016 - Traveller's Tales - 1 |
April 17th 2016 to April 25th 2016
A long drive as far as Hungary, taking in Bruckner, Liszt & Mozart, fully reported on this link.
July 10th - 12th 2016
We went for a short break, as Avis needed to get out after the Knee operation, so we booked into the Park Hotel, Tenby. It was a reasonable drive along the M4 but the toll on the new Severn Bridge was £13.20: extortionate. What we were not told was that the Welsh Marathon was being run & it took three hours to get into the hotel, which was ok except for the bland food at dinner. There was a great view over the town, below but it was very cold. The next day, we went via Pembroke & Milford Haven to St. David's Cathedral.

St. David's is near the end of a long peninsula. The cathedral is more-or-less surrouded by the ruins of the Bishop's Palace.

We drove on North, had a squalid sandwich for lunch & ended up at Machynlleth, booking into the ancient Wynnstay Arms Hotel & exploring the town. It was still very cold the next day, so we chucked it in & drove home very carefully because Ken had been worried by manifestations in his 'good' eye at Pembroke & went straight round to Moorfields the next day. They gave him a thorough check but said the 'floaters' were not unusual for someone of his age (what?, only 73), so, panic over. |
