A fairly stiff walk - the Mittaghorn 3142m

This walk (or climb) starts from the Plattja & it is best to take the string railway to save time. Don't try to climb directly up the ridge above you - this is for rock climbers. Rather, take the path marked to the Britannia Hut & watch out for the path up to your right, which takes you to the top. If you get to a big scree slope, you have gone a bit too far. Scramble up to the top, which is straight-forward & well defined. As with most medium height peaks, the view is fantastic (because you look up to the big hills & down to the valleys). It should take less than 3 hours from the Plattja.

The Egginer 3366m is the next hill South. Right of it is the Allalinhorn 4027m & left, the Strahlhorn 4190m

The Monte Moro Pass

This is quite a long way but rewarding for its views into Italy. The Monte Moro is one of the few safe walking route across the chain of the Pennine Alps. Walk down the path to Saas Almagell or stay there the night to save time. (Hotel Spycher recommended, as I have used it several times). Catch the bus to the Mattmark Dam which disfigures the view to the South of Almagell. Walk along the West side of the lake, which is easier than the other side. Cross the stream at the end & continue for 1/2 km when you cross back & start up the obvious track, with traces of the pack-horse track of yore still visible. There may be a snowfield at the top, in which case, just head for the big Virgin statue on the frontier. There is a café at the cable car station from Macugnaga in Italy. Then back the same way.
