Azores Easter Cruise March 26th - April 11th 2015 - Leixoes Page |
Palm Sunday 29th March 2015
I worked on the web site & slides in the morning. In the afternoon, I escorted a coach to Braga. (I had forgotten we had visited it during our 1992 trip to Viana do Costelo). The guide, Diana, I described as “drop-dead gorgeous” on the report form. She took us first to the gloomy cathedral but the organ looked magnificent. Unfortunately, no one was playing it so we could not hear it, as it is very old although still working.

The side chapels are much lighter than the main church, which rather suffers from starting with Romanesque (& genuine Roman) with accretions of just about every style up to the Baroque.

We rejoined the coach to be taken up to the Sanctuary of Bom Jesus which was Baroque & a bit excessive. The weather had decided to co-operate. We took a little longer to get back through the Sunday traffic but one hour was not bad. I was worn out & had a sleep before cleaning up for dinner at 20:15. Then, we went to Dana’s show. What a trooper! |

Two days at Sea...
...so I was on lecture duty on both, so was Ian Butterfield, the photography lecturer, who is very good, being a professional who has both a practice & a school. (Ian's web site is on this link). I gave "British Music of the Sea" on the Monday, followed by a Q & A, not getting many questions about me but plenty on the music. As a change from the music, I gave "The Cross-Swiss Walk" on Tuesday &, much to my surprise, it was quite a hit. Nothing followed in the Auditorium, so I allowed a Q & A for that as well. There were plenty of questions & positive comment around the ship afterwards.
