Azores Easter Cruise March 26th - April 11th 2015 - Funchal, Madiera Page |
Easter Sunday 5th April
Up at 8, as we had not booked on any tours. We had unfinished business in Funchal, where it was (at last) quite warm. We took the shuttle bus into town.

We walked along the promenade as far as the cable car before stopping for a coffee (€3.80). Then, to the Yellow Fort but while the museums were shut (on a public holiday???), we could crawl all over this highly photogenic object.

We went on to St. Mary’s Church, rubber-necking the Easter Service.

Then, Avis had a sit-down while I went further into the Old Town but this is seriously up hill & with no obvious notable buildings, so took a few photos, rejoined Avis & we proceded back to the more touristy part of the town.

We stopped for ice creams (big for €3.60), examined the gardens & took the shuttle back to the shop for a late lunch. After, I went to the Santa Maria replica, watched tourists embark, photoed the live parrot & the sail-away for my Wagner talk (Christopher Columbus Overture). The replica has a motor!
