Lisbon & into the Alcântara Dock, alas but in the berth near the Praça do Commerce, a “troop ship” was moored. There was a free shuttle bus to the bottom of the Avenida, which took agesto wriggle through the lethal Portuguese traffic.

We took the tube (€3.60) to the shuttle muster point & arrived back at the ship in time for some lunch. Then, the crew had a full emergency drill. We did not leave as planned that evening but only at 14:00 the next day. I gave the Shostakovich talk on Wednesday & balloted the class for an extra talk on Friday. They chose Sibelius. In between, I gave "King Arthur - fact, legend & music", on which I need to do more work! |
