Nice

Sunday 24th May 2015

Nice Old Port from the ship

The petrol-heads left early for the Grand Prix in Monaco, before we had breakfast. We were berthed in the Old Port & I took some photos after breakfast, although the weather was dull at first & iffy later.

Round the Nice Old Port

We walked round to the end of the Vieux Port & up to the Place Garibaldi, where we failed to get a coffee (no one came out).

Contemporary Art Museum

So, we went to the Contemporary Art Museum (€20), which has an elastic idea of “contemporary” but has good work & some, not so good, from the sixties & onward. There was much of Nikki de St. Phalle & some Yves Klein, both ‘locals’.

After, we had snacks in the Garibaldi Café (€14.20), it being lunch time & walked through the Old City, buying Avis some sun glasses (€10).

We went out onto the promenade (Quai des Etats Unis) & walked all round the Old Port, stopping for coffees on the way (€6), quite a good day out. Dinner started quietly, as it took the petrol-heads a while to get back, all except a shipping agent, who had booked in Blighty & took the train to Monaco. Sensible chap. I took photos as we left just before the concert.
