Haydn Tour - April 2016 - Ghent Page |
Sunday 17th April 2016
At Ostend, I turned off onto the motorway to Gent (that's how they spell it), which was quite a dense experience but I did stop & ask a young man who gave me imprecise but correct information & just managed to spot the Hotel Ibis opposite the cathedral. I had to go the wrong way up a one way street to get to its garage. I had not known there was one, as booking.com said there wasn’t. Normal Ibis room. We asked the reception girl which way to walk & did so. We stopped for a coffee in the square outside St. Baaf’s Cathedral, which was in scaffolding. The coffees were tiny, though.
Everywhere you look, there is an attractive vista in this old city. We had a look in St Nicholas’ Church.
We went towards the river, to the castle & a bit further, failing to find a restaurant but there was the Restaurant Neptune opposite the castle & we had pork medallions, big ones & lots of different vegetables. It had drizzled a bit before we got there but had been sunny before & was, after. |

Left is the City Tower of the Town Hall & below, the Market Hall. Back at the hotel, I paid the toll on-line with little difficulty & it was only £3. We lounged in the Lounge & read. I had put the photos in Pip (my working laptop MacBook Pro) but only edited the masters. |
