Ken had this yen to take the truck (our Peugeot 206 van) over to the Mainland & drive to visit places associated with the composer Josef Haydn (bust on the right), one of his favorites. Sensibly, this was at least a two & a half day's drive, so we took the opportunity to visit other places on the way. The text is from Ken's Diary:-
We got up at 05:05 & just as well as it turned out. The Blackwall Tunnel was closed & I had to drive out to the Dartford Crossing with no way to pay the toll there now but I figured that I could use the hotel internet to pay the toll but I lost time. In the event, P&O had cancelled the crossing & put us on one an hour later. It was bitterly cold, which did not help but it was very sunny, right into my eyes on the A13 & M20! Breakfast the usual: a bit more expensive, as usual! From Calais, I dawdled along the A16 & turned off in Belgium to go along the coast. This was not much of a success, as there are dunes & huge blocks of flats have been built on them, many not exactly architecturally distinguished but some of the houses were interesting. Only South of Ostend was the road on top, with a fairly rough sea visible.

The trip took us from London to the P&O ferry at Dover to Calais

& back to Dover on the DFDS ferry from Dunkirk.
