The Gerrard Chronicles 2003 - Ken is 60 |
KEN OLD - OFFICIALJune 15th was a big day. Philosophy for All had its 5th birthday party at Anja & Rick’s but we left early to set up Ken’s 60th Birthday Party in ‘The Harbour’ restaurant in Islington. The purpose of the party was kept secret to suppress present bringing but few were mislead. This feast was attended by 38 of the Gang (including Anja & Rick, who left Tania their tenant in charge of their party) & we were entertained by Elizabeth Jane Baldry from the Baldry FHS on the harp, the restaurant being astonished that it was a full-sized one. She enchanted everyone. Her Baldry aunt & cousin also came. Survivors came back to the house for champagne & cakes, which Ken had iced, writing his life story all over them. There was too much cake & the Stuart Low Trust & the Lilian Bayliss Arts Club polished them off. (All photos ©Alan Molloy). |

Two day's later, we visited City Hall (link), which is becoming a common event but we had not been in the Assembly Room before. Ken sat in the other Ken's chair, musing on what might have been!
Ken’s actual birthday is the 18th & he picked up his bus pass first thing. After a meeting in the Town Hall last thing, we found a pregnant black lady that the doorman was failing to find a bed for. We took over & also failed, putting her up for the night. She was Corine Mukinde from Zaire & we had a struggle to communicate in French. Ken delivered her to the Council offices next morning, an odd end to his birthday.
