Wednesday 24th May - Privatisation

For a Tory like Simon Jenkins to criticise privatisation is a bit rich but his article is quite right. Labour members with City experience, such as myself, warned for years that PFI was a financial disaster but were ignored because of the perceived need to keep taxes down. One fact not brought out in your German edition of G2 was that Germany is such a well-run place because they pay higher taxes.

Tuesday 23rd May - Water etc

Polly Toynbee, as usual, is quite right but the real problem is, how, in a democracy, do you get people to vote for a lower standard of living? The answer, of course, is for the parties to agree that any other choice is off the agenda. They have already and foolishly, taken criticism of 'the market' off the agenda, when it is the fount of most of our problems. They can do the same with any other policy they choose and should get on with it.

Saturday 6th May - Election in Ealing

The really serious election result last Thursday was the Tory capture of Ealing by a campaign of unbelievably cynical irresponsibility, where they fought the plans to build a tram system along the A4020. Residents did not like this idea, as the trams would get in the way of their cars but the private car has only a short life ahead of it as a form of transport, as oil supplies slacken and even, perhaps, the government takes global warming seriously. Then, such tram systems will be vital. Public transport should be vastly extended and effectively taken out of politics, as it seems impossible to get people to vote for something they will not like. In other words, democracy can only work in practice if people are not offered choices which are bad for the community as a whole.

Monday 1st May - A L Kennedy's comments

I was glad to read in A L Kennedy's comments that "increasingly weighty suspicions over 9/11 are ignored" by the Press. Because the media are largely staffed by Arts graduates, they have been easy for the establishment here & in the USA to bamboozle with the mathematically and physically ridiculous idea that aeroplane hits could have demolished the Twin Towers. The kinetic energy in the aeroplanes, as in all other plane-on-building collisions, was insufficient to cause any serious damage. The towers collapsed vertically and were pulverised. This can only be achieved by controlled demolitions using expertly placed charges.

Sorry to "bang" on about this subject but it is being blatently ignored, see the item below's link.

Wednesday 12th April - the film "V for Vendetta"

This looks like a take-off of a juvenile American shoot-em-up hero (Spiderman?) but rapidly develops into a British September 11th 2001 film, clearly suggesting what I have been saying for a long time, that Dick Cheney organised or allowed-to-be-organised the 9/11/2001 terrorist action.
