Dumped at the gate, we walked round Mdina, starting with the cathedral & museum (€5 each) after a short wander along narrow streets (but they still allow, presumably residents, cars in). Then, to the Carmelite Convent, which is much darker inside & to Fontanella Tea Garden, which has an enormous view back towards Valletta. We explored more narrow streets & took the coach back to Valletta at 12:40.
