To the Frozen North - Nanortalik, Greenland |
Nanortalik means "place of polar bears" & is the Southernmost village in Greenland or Kalallit Nunaak, as the locals call it. We got up at 0710 & got on the bum boat well before 9.

There was a mix-up in Nanortalik, because the time for the dancing was later on at the Cultural Centre, so we walked up to the cemetery first but they changed it back, so we went to the second sitting of dancing, cake & coffee.

Colourfully painted but small houses |
The Greenlanders are pretty sore about not being allowed into the Olympic Games but we had one passenger who had carried the Torch in 1948 & brought it with him, so they had a propaganda photo taken. The dancing was Scottish-influenced by whalers & I filmed some of it.

The time mix-up meant we missed the church choir but went round the open-air museum thoroughly.
