To the Norwegian Coast, August 7th - August 20th 2012 |
In order to miss the nightmare of the Olympics for London residents like us, we booked on a cruise to Greenland but this only covered part of the games, so we stayed on this lovely Fred Olsen ship & went up the Norwegian Coast as well on the MV Black Watch, shown here at Leknes in the Lofoten Islands |
There are frequent trains from London Bridge (rather slow) & the diddimo bullet train along HighSpeed1 from London St. Pancras to Dover Priory (not so frequent), then a courtesy bus to the ship... ...and from Dover, with three days at sea, to Leknes & one day at sea back to Dover. |
We were still on the ship in Dover, as we were escaping the Olympics, Central London residents being treated as the subjects of a colonial power for the duration.
A decent weather sail-away panorama of Dover, for once, but cold & windy
It was strange being on an almost empty ship but we did get very personal treatment in the dining room, there being only six of us staying over. It had been almost embarrassing when the Maitre d' asked us what we wanted for lunch, two days before & were offered an unlimited choice of rations. I settled for salmon & a Coupe Danemark. We did attempt to walk into Dover but there was a colder wind than anything we had experienced in Greenland on the previous cruise.
