Norwegian Coast Cruise 2012 Tromso Page |
We last visited Tromso in Winter (on this link). I got up at about 0630 for the sail into Tromso but was a bit early. I took some photos of the fjords, thanked the Captain for the plug for my talk (on Grieg) yesterday, as he was on the navigation bridge below us. We saw some dolphins & he told us this was unusual in this fjord. I went down to make tea & came back up for the entry into Tromso & breakfast.

Tromso is on an island. There is another spectacular bridge the other side. |
We took a tour, first to the Arctic Cathedral which was locked but I got a glimpse of the stained glass, then to the cable car.

The top station of the cable car gave good views despite it being overcast all day. I walked up the hill further to get better viewpoints.

Then, to the Polaria Centre, a building which looks like a pile-up of ice flows. This had a five-screen cinema with a film about Svalbard & one on the Northern Lights. But the big attraction was the walk-through aquarium with seals.

We were driven round the city to the other bridge, this one big enough for the troop ships (as I call the monster cruise liners) & back to the ship with a stop at the Maritime College for the view over the harbour.

We walked out after lunch for a while to photograph stuff I did not snap last time we were here (on this link).
