Monday 21st October - The Blue Grotto coach & boat trip
Up at 0647 & breakfast in the Palms for a fairly early start, as we sail at 1800. It was a day of mixed sunshine & some cloud. We went on an excursion to see the Blue Grotto on the South of the island. The guide had to ring the boatmen to serif it was safe to embark. Yes, apparently. We stopped for a photo call above the grotto, then went to a scruffy little village that lead down to the little harbour. Our 93 year old colleague came, which was game, as the boats only held 9 plus the captain & were chucked about all over the place. We did all have life jackets. However, this was all well worth while, as the grottos would have been interesting without the deep blue colour of the sea & the unconformity between the coral & limestone which shows at about sea level (strangely). There are several caves, which we were taken in. The photo of the cave with the window shows the unconformity best.

Back at the village, we had coffee (me) & ice cream (Avis) with a couple from Luxemburg, who were surprised & much amused that I knew their old motto, "Mir woelle bleive wat mir sin". We then went on to Marsaxlokk on this link.
