Italy etc Cruise April 2019 - Cartagena Page |
Saturday 11th May 2019
During a day at sea, the driver was making a beeline for a spot on the rugged South-East Coast of Spain where there is a beacon. Then, there is a quite dramatic entrance to the ports of Cartagena, as the bay winds in to the ancient port, which has been in action since the Carthaginians called it New Carthage.

There were several forts overlooking the port entrance, of varying vintage up to the present.

We berthed at 11:30 & it was hot, becoming extremely hot. We had lunch before going ashore & did not get very far but the Old Town was not very long. The Town Hall was huge & dated 1907. We had mediocre but cheap (€1.5 each) coffees in the shade, then found Cervantes house, very grand. There did not appear to be a cathedral & nor even any churches. Ken bought a Fridge magnet for its picture of the city of yore for his talks.
