Xmas Cruise 2013 - Zeebrugge for Brugge (Bruges) Page

The weather in Zeebrugge was pretty poor. As I got onto the gangplank, my Braemar Baseball cap flew off in the gale into the sea. We could hardly stand up against it. The shuttle bus went to Blankenberge Station & we just missed the train to Brugge, so bought our tickets (€11.60) and had a mooch round before the next one. There are some interesting Art Nouveau buildings there (right). The train went through the sort of sodden fields our grandfathers fought in.

Then, through the shortest back-street route to the station, stopping at a kindly hotel that did not charge Avis for a pee, which Belgians usually do. The train was 22 minutes late but we did just get the shuttle bus, although it absolutely poured in Blankenberge. Very welcome potato and salmon soup back on the ship.
