Xmas Cruise 2013 - Bremehaven for Bremen Page |
Monday 30th December 2013
Leaving Bremerhaven - it's a port!
Bremerhaven seemed a dump. Fortunately, we were on a tour to Bremen. It was a very cold but sunny day. It took about 3/4 hour to get there and over an hour to get back, making lunch, a scramble. Meanwhile, we were taken round the Old Town of Bremen, some of it reconstructed after the War.

We went to the cathedral and round inside it, mostly Lutheran but now with some Catholic stuff allowed back in.

Then, around the Böttcher Strasse Art Nouveau area with a Paula Modersohn-Becker Museum.

Then, along the water front and through the Schnoor. I thought that meant ‘string’ and was right. It is an old seamen’s area of tiny buildings and narrow streets. During a bit of free time, we had hot chocolates on the Market Square.

Then, walked through a real market behind the Town Hall and to the Wall, an area of a zig-zag canal with a park on the Old Town side, rather attractive.
