Xmas Cruise 2013 - Copenhagen-Arken Page |
Thursday 26th December - to Arken
We were quite late getting into Copenhagen, berthing at about 10. I had bought Dk850 for £99.18 from Reception. We walked off to Osterport Station & took a train at 1109 to Ishjoi on a grey but at least, not raining morning. Osterport Station building is quaintly old-fashioned but the facilities were not. Curiously, one buys one’s ticket from the buffet. Ishjoi Station has had a birthday since we were last here (in 1998) & the view of the Arken gallery on the dunes, just back from the beach, is obscured by new flats.

The bus (number 128) is on the train ticket. (These are timed, from zone to zone). Just as well, as it was Dk240 altogether plus Dk190 to get into Arken & Dk238 for lunch. I had not told Avis that there was a Frida Kahlo special show, as a surprise. This had some of her paintings we knew, some of Diego Rivera & other Mexican revolutionary painters & some of Kahlo’s drawings we did not know.

The Walthamstow Tapestry by Grayson Perry
There was quite a bit of British art, including Grayson Perry’s “Walthamstow Tapestry” above. What was that doing here? We had a splendid lunch, Avis of gravad lax & me of a pork salad (since we are in Denmark). The bus back was late & we chatted to a group of Swedes, who can get here easily these days over the bridge. It was 2°C all day, so the walk back from Osterport Station did not warm our feet much. We were just in time for tea.
