All along the Mediterranean Cruise - Cagliari, Sardinia, Italy |
Coming into Cagliari port in the morning with 'promising' weather
The TV alarm system does to appear to work properly & woke us at 0430, not 0630. We did get up at 0639, or I did, making the tea seems to be my job. I was on deck for the arrival in Cagliari & took some panoramas. The weather was decidedly iffy.
Before we had a look round the city, we went to visit the Roman archaelogical site at Nora on this link.
Back to the ship in time for lunch in the Four Seasons, after which we took the port shuttle to the town. We went up the hill but it started raining & Avis was finding it hard going, so I took her back to the shuttle terminal & went up to the top of the town by myself. This was hard, as my goretex coat was a bit warm but necessary, as it rained on & off. However, I did get to two good viewpoints on the way.

It is another flight of steps & a sloping street before getting to the Piazza Palazzo, which has the Vice-regal Palace, the Civic Palace & the Duomo in it. I went in the Duomo, rather gloomy inside & most of my photos there did not turn out.

Leaving |
Back to the ship soon after 4. We had to be back by 5 for the journey to Trapani overnight. Avis found me having tea with a couple, he a retired Manchester Ship Canal Tug sailor who I have chatted to several times before. We went out on the deck for the departure at 1730, finding David the pianist, who was very polite about my Grieg lecture, going so far as to say he had learned some things. A good photo & back to the cabin for a shower, which took us up to dinner, which we spent with Alan, one of the Maritime History lecturers & wife. Then, John Butt chose to join us, sitting next to me, which I regarded as helpful until 'a certain person' literally grabbed his attention. She is verging on the bonkers & her on-off about-to-be father-in-law went to the same college as John, so that wasted more time. Avis went in to the funny man while I went to the Library to label my photos or I would never remember what they were.
